Launch of SOYJOY
Manufacturing and Marketing in Indonesia

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo, Japan; President: Tatsuo Higuchi) has announced the July 2, 2018 launch of manufacturing and marketing of whole-soy nutritional food SOYJOY in Indonesia. SOYJOY products to be marketed in Indonesia will be produced on a newly installed halal-compliant line at the Kejayan Factory of Indonesian subsidiary P.T. Amerta Indah Otsuka (AIO) (Head Office: Jakarta, Indonesia; President: Yoshihiro Bando).

AIO manufactures and markets POCARI SWEAT, SOYJOY, and other products that contribute to health and wellbeing. Imported for marketing in Indonesia since 2007, SOYJOY offers health benefits by making it easy to enjoy the nutrition of soy any time or place, and targeted proposal of new consumption scenarios has made SOYJOY a popular choice for busy and health-conscious Indonesians.

In addition to expectations for continued growth of the Indonesian market for health foods, demand for halal food products led to the construction of the halal-compliant production line at the Kejayan Factory, paving the way for local manufacturing and marketing of SOYJOY. Halal-compliant SOYJOY Strawberry will be launched on July 2, with additional flavors to follow.

Otsuka will continue to promote the health benefits of soy and suggest new ways to maximize the advantages of soy protein in keeping with local cultural and lifestyle differences.

SOYJOY soy bars are flavorful low GI* snack bars made from whole soybeans (excluding the thin peel). Launched in Japan in 2006, overseas marketing was initiated the same year; SOYJOY was introduced in Indonesia in 2007.

  • A Low GI Food
    SOYJOY is a low GI food. "GI" stands for "glycemic index." A measurement of how carbohydrates in foods affect blood sugar levels, a low GI indicates gradual absorption of carbohydrates, said to offer benefits for weight control. Foods with a GI of 55 or less are considered "low GI," and all SOYJOY products are recognized as low GI foods.
