Otsuka Pharmaceutical Enters Into Health Promotion Partnership with Toyama Prefecture

  • The agreement, signed on August 30, 2016, aims to contribute to creation of a vital society that supports healthy and rewarding lifestyles appropriate for various life stages for all prefectural residents, as set forth in the Toyama Health Promotion Plan 21 (Term 2).
  • Otsuka will utilize its expertise in heat stroke countermeasures, nutritional education, sports promotion, and disaster mitigation to promote health and wellbeing and contribute to extended healthy life expectancy of Toyama Prefecture residents.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo, Japan; President: Tatsuo Higuchi) has entered into a Health Promotion Partnership with Toyama Prefecture, aiming to promote health and enhance the quality of services for prefectural residents. The agreement was signed on August 30 at the Toyama Prefecture Offices.

In response to high mortality rates*1 from lifestyle-related illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes, Toyama Prefecture has formulated the Toyama Health Promotion Plan 21 (Term 2)*2, aiming to improve daily habits and the social environment with the goal of fostering a vital society that supports healthy and rewarding lifestyles appropriate for various life stages. Identifying extended healthy life expectancy*3 as its basic target, Toyama Prefecture is engaged in health promotion initiatives including improvement of dietary habits and establishment of regular exercise regimens.

As befitting a health care company, Otsuka Pharmaceutical is involved in various activities with local governments and other entities to promote health and wellbeing. To date, efforts to promote the health of Toyama Prefecture residents have included organization of seminars related to heat stroke countermeasures and nutrition and provision of health-related information for local corporations, high schools and facilities for the elderly.

Under the new Health Promotion Partnership, Otsuka will reinforce this cooperative alliance, aiming to maximize expertise in areas such as heat stroke countermeasures, nutritional education, sports promotion, and disaster mitigation and provide health-related information and products based on scientific evidence to contribute to the health, wellbeing, and extended healthy life expectancy of Toyama Prefecture residents.

Under the terms of the agreement, Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Toyama Prefecture will cooperate to implement activities including but not limited to those outlined below.
