Otsuka and NEC agree to develop a smart medicine container to assist patients in taking daily anti-stroke medication at the appropriate time

  • Otsuka and NEC combine their experience and technological know-how to develop in Japan a medicine container using the Internet of Things.
  • In patients taking anti-platelet agents to prevent stroke recurrence, after six months about 50% cease taking their medication. It is important to continue the treatment uninterrupted.
  • The smart container will remind patients when to take their medicine and update an app on their smartphone so they can check their medication history. The container contributes to the uninterrupted treatment of anti-stroke medication.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and NEC Corporation agreed on September 7, 2016, to jointly develop a smart medicine container that supports patients' daily adherence to anti-platelet drug therapy, used to prevent the recurrence of cerebral infarctions (strokes).
