"G Mark" Good Design Long Life Design Award

Tokyo, Japan: Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO: Taro Iwamoto) is pleased to announce that the company's Calorie Mate package design has been recognized as a recipient of the Good Design Long Life Design Award 2014, presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion to designs that retain their unchanging appeal with a consistent design theme over time.

A special award under the auspices of the Good Design Award recognizing "good design" that enriches and enhances the quality of our lives, the Long Life Design Award honors the designs of products and services that have continued to enjoy consumer support for a period of 10 years or more.

Calorie Mate Block was recognized for maintaining the same basic design and earning significant consumer support over an extended period of time. From its initial launch in 1983, Calorie Mate Block has been relied on by countless consumers in various walks of life to effortlessly provide the five main nutritional elements in a form that is easy to consume for breakfast or during work, study or sports.

The bold eye-catching yellow package and distinctive Calorie Mate logo have retained their consumer appeal for more than 32 years since their initial debut.

【Package Design Considerations】

The logo for this innovative product was deliberately rendered in a typeface with a classic aura, brining to mind the logo of a US baseball team. Emphasizing the "Balanced Food" concept, the nutritional components are listed in English across the entire surface of the package, resulting in an eye-catching design that clearly communicates the product message. The bright yellow "construction site" package color also stands out in the store.
