Construction Completed on Otsuka's New Pharmaceutical Factory Plant in Mima City,
Tokushima Prefecture, Japan

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announces that construction has been completed on a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility for medicines. The facility is located in the western part of Tokushima Prefecture.

In tandem with Otsuka's global growth, demand for stable supplies of high-quality pharmaceuticals continues to grow. Otsuka Pharmaceutical currently manufactures pharmaceuticals at five factories in Japan*1 and the addition of a new factory, scheduled to commence operations in September 2020, will accommodate this growing demand. The new factory will produce products in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)*2 certification standards in Japan, the United States and the EU.

Mima City area is known for its abundant pure water and natural beauty. In addition to current locations in the eastern (Tokushima Factory, Tokushima Second Factory), southern (Tokushima Wajiki Factory) and northern (Tokushima Itano Factory) areas of Tokushima Prefecture, construction of the Tokushima Mima Factory expands Otsuka Pharmaceutical's presence to the western part of Tokushima, enabling the company to contribute to the renewed vitality in all areas of the prefecture in which it was founded.

  2. 2GMP: Good Manufacturing Practices are guidelines to ensure consistent production of pharmaceutical products according to established quality standards, covering all aspects of production from procurement of materials through shipment of finished products. It includes facility design and construction and placement of machinery and equipment in order to minimize human error in the manufacturing process.
