Free Outdoor Live Music Event "EXCITING SUMMER in WAJIKI 2025"
Live Stage Will Run on Solar Power
Promoting More Sustainable Event Experience

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) will host its free outdoor live event, EXCITING SUMMER in WAJIKI 2025 ("ExciSummer"), on August 13th at the Tokushima Wajiki Factory (Naka-cho, Naka-gun, Tokushima Prefecture), in collaboration with local government and community partners.

The event has been hosted for 36 times, and this year's "ExciSummer" will mark a sustainability milestone: the live stage will be powered by electricity generated from solar panels that began operating on the factory ground last year, in September 2024. In addition, the venue will also promote "bottle-to-bottle" horizontal PET recycling initiative on-site. The event will also feature enhanced measures to protect attendees from heat illness, creating a space where everyone can enjoy the "ExciSummer" safely. Tokushima is the birthplace of the Otsuka group, and we aim to revitalize and develop the region by evolving the Tokushima summer tradition of "ExciSummer" and collaborating with local governments and businesses to promote it.

EXCITING SUMMER in WAJIKI 2025

Solar power generation system on the Otsuka premises

This live event started in 1990, a year after our factory was established in the industrial park of Wajiki-cho, Tokushima Prefecture (now Naka-cho, Naka-gun) by young members of the Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations to attract young people and energize the community. Now an established summer event, the concert is known by the nickname, "ExciSummer"

First-time Use of Solar Power at the "ExciSummer"

As part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, Otsuka has been expanding its use of renewable energy since 2021 by installing solar power systems at production facilities across Japan. Solar power generation began at the site of Tokushima Wajiki Factory in September 2024.The system produces approximately 4,000 MWh of electricity annually and reduces CO₂ emissions by around 2,000 tons per year, including from group companies located on the same industrial park. This year's "ExciSummer" will be the first time that both the main and sub-stages will be powered by electricity generated from the on-site solar system.

Strengthening Hospitality with Heat Illness Prevention Measures

As temperatures continue to rise due to climate change, Otsuka is enhancing hospitality measures to ensure visitors, artists, and staff are protected from heat illness. In addition to providing POCARI SWEAT, setting up shade tents, and installing mist showers throughout the venue, we will also increase the number of free pop-up tents available for rental to ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

"Bottle-to-Bottle" Horizontal Recycling Initiative

Otsuka will carry out a "bottle-to-bottle" horizontal recycling initiative, which involves collecting used PET bottles and recycling them into new ones. On the event day, PET bottles will be sorted and collected in collaboration with Naka-cho, with which Otsuka has signed a cooperation agreement on "bottle-to-bottle" recycling. The collected bottles will be processed and converted into materials for recycled PET bottles. These materials will then be used to produce new PET bottles, which will be reused as beverage containers by our company and other beverage manufacturers.
