Otsuka Pharmaceutical Certified as Sports Yell Company for 4th Consecutive Year
-Providing Opportunities for Exercise Tailored for New Lifestyles-

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) has received certification from the Japan Sports Agency as a 2021 Sports Yell Company, certification granted to corporations that actively encourage participation in sports to promote employee health. Otsuka has been recognized for four consecutive years, since the establishment of the certification program in 2017.

The Japan Sports Agency recognizes companies that actively support and promote measures to improve employees' health through sports with Sports Yell Company certification. In 2020, among initiatives tailored to provide opportunities for exercise under new lifestyles, Otsuka introduced limited online distribution of exercise sessions normally conducted in the workplace to enable participation by employees engaged in remote work. The company also sponsored walking rallies using a smartphone app, and continues to support employees and their families in maintaining exercise regimens and promoting health and wellbeing. These and other initiatives are recognized by the company's certification as a 2021 Sports Yell Company.

Initiatives to Encourage Participation in Sports Implemented in 2020

Weekly exercise sessions held in offices and factories were also made available to employees engaged in remote work through limited online distribution, enabling employees and their families to follow along at home.

Training at home Limited online distribution of "Training at Home" videos encouraged viewers to exercise while working from home. The exercise routines contributed to improved health when followed by employees and their families at home.
Walking rallies with smartphone app Walking rallies were organized using a smartphone pedometer app that tracks and manages the number of steps. Participants accumulated "Health Points" which could be exchanged for prizes in accordance with distance walked during the course of the events.
Promotion of exercise in the workplace Encouraged by poster displays and wall stickers in stairwells indicating calories consumed by climbing the stairs, the number of people using the stairs increased.

Otsuka issued the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Declaration on Health in January 2017. To coincide with the appointment of Makoto Inoue as President and Representative Director in March 2020, a new Declaration on Health was written to confirm the company's stance on employee health-related issues. Otsuka believes that it is important for each and every employee to be able to work with vigor and good health. Toward this goal, Otsuka implements a variety of initiatives including health seminars and exercise programs to assist employees in understanding health issues and encourage them to take an active role in preventing illness and enhancing their own health.

Otsuka will continue to contribute to the health and wellbeing of people everywhere, including employees and their families.
