Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) has established a new production line for block-type Calorie Mate within its Second Tokushima Factory to meet increasing demand. The new line commenced operations on June 24.

Since its launch in 1983, Calorie Mate has been offered as a balanced nutritional food that conveniently provides the five essential nutrients the body needs. It was created to suit various needs and scenarios, such as busy mornings, studying for exams, sports, and work, adapting to changes in times and society along the way. In recent years, Calorie Mate has experienced strong sales because it addresses nutritional needs amidst a growing sense of health consciousness. To meet this growing demand, we have renovated the Second Tokushima Factory to strengthen our production system and establish a new production line for block-type Calorie Mate. As a result, the production capacity of this product will be approximately 1.5 times that of the existing total output of both the Second Tokushima Factory and Tokushima Wajiki Factory combined.

The newly established production line incorporates new MES^*1 and IoT^*2 technologies to enhance manufacturing and quality control while adopting environmentally conscious equipment to promote energy conservation and reduce CO₂ emissions. Additionally, we have introduced robotic devices to assist in transporting heavy materials to ensure all genders can work comfortably and to reduce the physical burden on our employees.

As a sustainable factory that is kind to the environment and its employees, we are committed to improving productivity and employee engagement. We aim to establish a solid foundation that can adapt to changes in the business environment while continuing to contribute to maintaining and improving people's health.

The Tokushima Second Factory, located in the Imagire Industrial Park in Tokushima City, was established in 1980 as a facility for synthesizing active pharmaceutical ingredients for in-house developed pharmaceuticals. Subsequently, it began manufacturing nutritional products and pharmaceutical formulations. It is the only factory within Otsuka Pharmaceutical that produces three types of products: active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical formulations, and nutritional products.
