Encouraging the Practice of Self-Conditioning

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) launched the Conditioning Supporter Training Program on January 23, 2025, as a new initiative for corporate well-being support. In collaboration with Kenkokeiei Nonprofit Organization, the program aims to create a comprehensive environment that encourages employees to independently manage their health and practice self-conditioning, thereby enhancing productivity and reducing presenteeism.

The program trains "Conditioning Supporters" with the necessary skills to encourage and facilitate self-conditioning among employees. This paid program is primarily intended for occupational health staff, such as occupational physicians, public health nurses, registered nurses, and dietitians, who support employee health initiatives. Occupational health staff will take an e-learning course supervised by experts, covering topics such as infection prevention, nutrition, mental health, sleep, and physical activities that can be incorporated into daily life. Kenkokeiei Nonprofit Organization will officially accredit those who pass the certification test as a conditioning supporter.
Web seminars on conditioning will be accessible to certified participants, enabling them to manage employee health in an occupational setting. In addition, they will receive tools such as educational materials on nutrition and hydration self-checks and feedback sheets to visualize the outcomes of their efforts, thereby supporting the overall improvement of self-conditioning across companies.

Background of the Conditioning Supporter Training Program

Otsuka is dedicated to enhancing society's ability to thrive in daily life, a concept we refer to as "life performance." To achieve this, we encourage self-conditioning, empowering individuals to take control of their health. Recognizing the growing demand for companies to drive health initiatives and employees' need for workplace well-being, we developed this program for occupational health professionals. These individuals are key in bridging the gap between corporate objectives and employee needs, ensuring a healthier, more productive workforce.
The mental and physical health of employees is not only a personal responsibility but something that supervisors, managers, and HR personnel must actively engage with. While this program focuses on occupational health staff who support employee well-being, Otsuka plans to further advance initiatives to establish "total conditioning" -- a comprehensive support system that fosters collaboration among all stakeholders in employee health. This approach aims to create a culture of well-being throughout entire organizations.
