Otsuka Pharmaceutical Finalizes Business Collaboration Agreement for Horizontal Recycling of PET Bottles
Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) has finalized a business collaboration agreement aiming to contribute to realization of a sustainable society through promotion of horizontal "bottle-to-bottle" recycling of PET bottles. The agreement with Altech Co., Ltd. (Head office: Tokyo, Japan; President: Toshishige Ikeya), industrial machinery and equipment import trading company and parent company of PET bottle preform manufacturer Altech New Materials Co., Ltd., and Japan Power Bottlers K.K. (Head office: Fukui, Japan; Head office: Fukui, Japan; President: Kazuo Hirose President: Haruo Nishihara), engaged in collection and cleaning of used PET bottles and production of PET flake source material for recycled resin, was finalized on November 16, 2022.
■ Objectives of Business Collaboration
Used PET bottles will be collected and produced into recycled resin for manufacture of beverage bottles to promote Japan-based bottle-to-bottle resource circulation. The three participating companies will collaborate for collection, manufacturing and sales to promote effective circulation of resources and contribute to realization of a sustainable environment, economy, and society.
This business collaboration represents a major step toward attaining the goals set forth in the Otsuka Group Plastic Policy Vision for 2050 and Goal for 2030, established to promote sustainable use of plastic and effective resource recycling.

Collection, sorting, crushing and washing of used PET bottles for recycling into PET flakes for beverage bottles.

Production of recycled resin from PET flakes produced by Japan Power Bottlers and manufacture of preforms using the recycled resin.
[Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.]
Manufacture and sale of beverages bottled in preforms made by Altech from recycled resin produced from PET bottles collected and recycled by Japan Power Bottlers.
