Skin

Estrogen has been closely linked to the preservation of the elasticity (tension) of women's skin. It has been reported that elasticity gradually decreases from menopause to postmenopause.

Study outline and results

A sample of 101 postmenopausal women between 45 and 65 years old that were not producing equol were split into three groups: a group given 10mg of equol per day; a group given 30mg per day; and a group given a placebo. After taking the supplement for 12 weeks, the extent of the wrinkles at the corners of the eyes of the postmenopausal women in each group was measured, and wrinkle depth was found to be visibly suppressed in the 30mg group.
