Soy protein: soy food product boom in the U.S.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. In 1999, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognized the health claim that eating at least 25 grams of soy protein per day (6.25 grams per meal) may reduce the risk of heart disease. Many food companies responded positively to this, and a variety of new soy products have since appeared on the U.S. market. As a result, soy is now better known amongst North American consumers.
