UL•OS Men's Skin Care Line from Otsuka Pharmaceutical

Tokyo, Japan, September 3, 2008 -- Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President: Taro Iwamoto) today announced the launch of the UL•OS brand of Men's Cosmedics* targeting healthy skin. The line of face and body care products formulated with middle-aged men in mind will be launched on September 9, 2008, with the introduction of five items in three formulations: skin lotion, skin milk, and skin cream.

Men's skin tends to loose moisture more quickly than sebum, disrupting the skin's moisture balance as aging progresses. Skin care with high moisture content is required to alleviate this imbalance of sebum and moisture and restore healthy skin. A disruption in moisture balance is what causes numerous middle-aged men to complain of dry or itchy skin.
Envisioning various daily usage scenarios, UL・OS was developed so that a single product could be used for face and body care, with particular attention to moisture, fragrance, and texture. Formulation with moisture ingredient AMP** balances the complexion's hydric environment, aiming to restore a bright and healthy skin. A unique blend of nine essential oils gives UL•OS products a natural herbal mint fragrance that is pleasant to use but leaves no lingering after-scent. The lightweight products are absorbed into the skin quickly, leaving no greasy residue.

Establishing Otsu Skin Care Research Institute in 1990, Otsuka Pharmaceutical has been investigating the mechanisms of the skin, a vital organ that accounts for approximately 16% of human body weight, and has continued to pursue research with the theme of health of the skin. The InnerSignal line of medicated (quasi-drug) cosmetics, based on the unique Cosmedics concept and proprietary Otsuka Pharmaceutical technology, was launched in 2005. The UL•OS line of Men's skin care products is Otsuka Pharmaceutical's second skin care brand.
Men's skin care products are estimated to account for approximately 1% of the overall cosmetics market in Japan, generating approximately 15 billion yen a year. Though still small in scale, this market has posted a 25% increase over the past five years and continues to expand annually. (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; Chemical Industry Statistics Report 2007) Otsuka Pharmaceutical aims to position UL•OS as a global brand, and will pursue development of markets for this innovative new line of Cosmedics skin care products.
