Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office Tokyo, Japan; President: Tatsuo Higuchi) has entered into a comprehensive partnership with Mie Prefecture, aiming to support the goals set forth in the prefecture's "Basic Health Promotion Plan," adopted in March 2013. As a comprehensive health care company, Otsuka Pharmaceutical is involved in various activities with local governments and other entities to promote healthy lifestyles.

As a result of public health promotion efforts implemented by Mie Prefecture in cooperation with prefectural residents since 2001, many health-related indices have improved*3, including a decline in death rates due to lifestyle-related illnesses and an increase in healthy life expectancy. Despite this progress, the number of prefectural residents who actually feel as if they enjoy the benefits of good health has not necessarily increased. This led to the March 2013 adoption of the "Basic Health Promotion Plan," aiming to promote both physical and mental health and improve the general social environment, to further extend healthy life expectancy and enhance quality of life for residents of Mie Prefecture.

Otsuka has already engaged in various initiatives to maintain and promote the health of prefectural residents and support education in cooperation with Mie Prefecture. With the conclusion of the comprehensive partnership, Otsuka will further maximize its expertise in heat stroke countermeasures, prevention of lifestyle-related illnesses, nutritional education, sports promotion, and disaster countermeasures, working together with the prefectural government to extend healthy life expectancy and improve the health and wellbeing of residents of Mie Prefecture.

Under the terms of the agreement, Otsuka will work together with Mie Prefecture to promote the Health Promotion Challenge Corporation program, including but not limited to initiatives outlined below.

  1. 1Initiatives to promote the health of prefectural residents
  2. 2Promotion of nutritional education
  3. 3Training and development of competitive athletes
  4. 4Initiatives related to disaster prevention and relief
