Otsuka Pharmaceutical Expands On-Site Solar Power Facilities at Factory Premises
Accelerating Carbon-Neutral Initiatives
Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) has announced the launch of solar power generation systems at the Tokushima Second Factory and expanded existing systems at the Tokushima Itano, Takasaki, Tokushima and Tokushima Mima Factories. These systems became operational between September 2024 and December 2025. As a result of these initiatives, annual CO2 emissions are expected to be reduced by approximately 3,189 tons across the six domestic factories where these systems have been installed.
Otsuka has also transitioned approximately 84% of its domestic electricity consumption to CO₂-free power sources, and its efforts to generate renewable energy in-house directly contribute to decarbonization.

As part of Otsuka group's sustainability initiatives, which identify "Reducing Environmental Impact" as one of its material issues, Otsuka is actively working toward achieving its CO₂ reduction targets under the "Carbon Neutral" commitment.
Since 2021, Otsuka has been actively introducing solar power generation systems at its manufacturing facilities in Japan. Currently, such systems are operational at six factories: Tokushima Itano2, Takasaki3, Tokushima4, Tokushima Mima5, Tokushima Second6, and Tokushima Wajiki7. In addition to implementing CO₂-free electricity across all eight domestic manufacturing facilities8 and utilizing Green Power Certificates9 for all office locations outside factory premises, the Otsuka group is also promoting further CO₂ reductions throughout the entire supply chain, including initiatives such as the increased use of SAF9 for air cargo transportation.
In addition to these initiatives, Otsuka is advancing efforts to improve the efficiency of group-wide integrated energy management by establishing an integrated energy service framework. Through the centralized procurement of renewable energy and the supply of generated electricity, the group is working to maximize energy-use efficiency.
Otsuka will continue to promote the active adoption of renewable energy, along with initiatives to maximize energy-use efficiency, as it works toward the realization of a low-carbon, sustainable society.

Otsuka operates its business based on a corporate philosophy centered on contributing to health. In line with this mission, the company has identified four key material issues (materiality) and is actively working to address them while striving to realize a sustainable society.
Under "Reducing Environmental Impact," one of Otsuka group's material issues, Otsuka is advancing initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by mitigating climate change caused by global warming. These initiatives include not only the installation of solar power generation systems, but also efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions across the entire business value chain.
・Introduction of CO2-free electricity at all eight factories in Japan
Since April 2020, all manufacturing activities have been powered by CO2-free electricity, derived from renewable energy sources that do not emit CO2. This has been implemented at all 8 plants in Japan for all purchased electricity used in production activities.
・Adoption of Green Power Certificates
Adoption in 2020 of Green Power Certificates for all offices of five Otsuka group companies in Japan has resulted in replacement of annual electricity consumption with green power.
・Promoting CO₂ reduction across the entire supply chain
In 2024, Otsuka participated as a consignor company in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's initiative to promote the use of SAF in air cargo transportation as part of efforts to address Scope 3 emissions. Through such initiatives, the company continues to advance CO₂ reduction measures across its entire supply chain.
・Maximizing energy efficiency
At the Otsuka Group Energy Management Building, completed in July 2023, the group centrally manages integrated energy operations, including the bulk procurement of renewable energy, electricity demand forecasting and supply, as well as the management of water, electricity, and heat at the Kawauchi area factories in Tokushima, in order to reduce CO₂ emissions and maximize energy-use efficiency.
